API Authorization Problems - Anyone Else

Is anyone else having authorization problems with the API? I keep getting a 401 unauthorized message, but my authorization header is spot on. Even when you attempt to add a service reference (if connecting via SOAP or Entity Framework (whatever that mess of sample code that is provided) you get a 401 exception if you do not use the sample resource url. That seems very strange that you would need authorization to add a service reference???
At any rate, I am connecting via my own rest-style following the request authorization and signature procedures etc. and I keep getting an error although everything is there.
I even tried resetting my shared secret and api key. I guess this API just does not work. What is the alternative? Kinda hard to make a dynamic application with a buggy api.
